Reflect. Accept. Triumph.

As 2018 comes to an end, I reflect on both the positive and negative experiences that occurred over the last 11 months (all of which were equally important and enlightening.)

I can honestly say that this was the most crucial year of my life, so far. I went through the most difficult situation that has ever been put in front of me, and I prevailed- a stronger, smarter and braver human than I could of ever imagined of myself. I surprised myself with unimaginable resilience and maturity, and I learned a ton about who I am and what I am capable of overcoming.

I also experienced some seriously overwhelming happiness and had the privilege of meeting and connecting with numerous incredible human beings.

2018 was enlightening, which means – 2019 is the time to set my new knowledge and strength into play. I couldn’t be more excited to fall victim into the trap of utilizing another New Year as a landmark for a new beginning – and… I’m not afraid to say it!

My intentions for 2019 will be to focus on myself. I understand, that on one end that sounds shocking and selfish, but the truth is, it’s necessary and it’s long overdue. Whether that means saying “No” when I feel like saying “No”, prioritizing my interests into a list that makes most sense for me and my life, or pushing past unnecessary/self-proclaimed doubts.

Step 1- Finally participating in a yoga teacher training program.

I started practicing yoga 5 years ago when a yoga angel, Deborah Abrams, was placed into my life. It was an amazing summer spent together, but ended way too soon due to having to travel back to Pittsburgh for my sophomore year at Point Park. I spent the past 5 years bouncing from studio to studio- searching, desperately, for a teacher in Pittsburgh that could touch me the way Deborah did. Physically and mentally lol! While I have stumbled upon many amazing teachers that have tons to offer and whose classes I have enjoyed, it wasn’t until last month that I walked into a class and finally found what I’ve been searching for since moving to Pittsburgh.

It was a little less traditional, for whatever reason, it was a week after The Tree of Life shooting, and it was extremely emotional and overwhelming. I found myself in tears two different times throughout the practice. It was indescribably touching and I immediately fell for the teacher’s voice, guidance, honesty, openness, demand of vulnerability, care/concern with each student,  adjustments/physical touch, and her strong/powerful/kind and bold spirit. Dom Bridges Ponko pulled me in hard, and I didn’t want the hour and 45 minute practice to ever end.

Like I said, I have had the privilege of practicing at many studios around the Pittsburgh area, and they have all been welcoming, unique and third-eye opening. But as soon as I stepped foot into Yoga Flow (and every class I have taken since Dom’s), I felt a sense of home. They say “when you find your soulmate, you should never let them go,”  and let me tell ya, I’m holding on tight.

As I enjoy the last couple of weeks of 2018, I look forward to the New Year. I am ecstatic to begin this new journey, and I recommend that if ANYONE reading this has the slightest inclination to put yourself first, set an intention for a new beginning, or participate in yoga teacher training – DO IT!montana in snow REFLECT. ACCEPT. TRIUMPH.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Once again I have to say that I just keep getting more and more proud of you! I’m thrilled to see, experience with you and hear you always plugging away and moving forward in life. Taking care of “you” and loving “you” is the utmost important thing as we venture through our journey on this earth. We can truly expose ourselves much better to others when we are in truth, love and care for ourselves first. It is literally impossible to go through life putting ourselves last when what we want to do is help others. I applaud you for always wanting to learn and grow. Love you infinite.
